Many will notice that
a location in Cairns doesn't fit in the 'Brisbane Pan Project' at
all. Cairns
is Queensland's 'northern capital' and some 1700km away from Brisbane. This
series, and the preceding WMP panorama
series, are a preview of what is to come with a new Cairns-based panorama
site to sit alongside the Brisbane Pan Project, which will also continue
to develop and expand.
The Centre
of Contemporary Arts, or CoCA as
it is generally known, is the new jewel in the crown of Cairns' already
sparkling arts community. CoCA is actually
the result of the collaboration of two arts organisations
-
KickArts , Just
Us Theatre Ensemble (JUTE). Together
with a third resident company, End
Credits Film Club, they animate the Centre with contemporary
theatre, art exhibitions, film screenings and other events, including
corporate
functions and entertainment opportunities.
Opened to the public in
June 2004,
the CoCA building was re-born from a disused government building,
to provide
two
contemporary
gallery spaces, a contemporary theatre space, training and workshop
spaces, and the Liquid
Bar and Cafe.
These panoramas form the basis
of a comprehensive virtual tour for the Centre of Contemporary Arts. you
can view the complete tour here.
